Bluewater Sales LLC consigned and sold one of the top 10 horses at the Feb. 9-10 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed sale, a yearling colt by Arch that brought a winning bid of $230,000.
The sale price represented the highest paid for a colt as well as any yearling offered at the two-day sale.
The dark bay colt, hip No. 420, consigned for Nancy and Mike Mazzoni, was purchased by Catherine Parke, agent.
I literally dropped my catalog when I saw him walk by at Meg Levy's barn,” Parke laughed. “I wasn't here to by a yearling; I was here to buy broodmares, but then I saw him and thought 'wow'. I called some longtime clients of the farm and told them I saw a colt that takes your breath away. They just don't look like that. He's an extraordinary-looking animal; he's correct and very classy. I hope he'll turn into a lovely yearling.”
Parke is planning on pinhooking the yearling, though when asked how often she does, Parke replied, “I never have. This is my first one.”
Bred in Kentucky, the colt is out of the Seeking the Gold mare Trappings, the dam of She Be Wild, the 2009 Eclipse Champion 2-year-old Filly and winner of that year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) and Arlington-Washington Lassie S. (G3).
