2002 BLUEWATER SALES NEWS
BLUEWATER SALES,LLC ranked 10th among all North American yearling consignors with gross receipts of $8,462,800. "We're focusing on smaller, more select consignments this year", reported Meg Levy, now sole owner of Bluewater Sales. "We've developed a reputation for success selling yearlings from the first crop of young sires, and our plan is to continue to build on that. But we do very well with the offspring of established sires too, as evidenced by the Gone West filly we sold at Keeneland last September." (Keeneland September 2001 Hip #260, a Gone West filly out of November Snow was purchased by John Ferguson, agt. for $600,000.) -Thoroughbred Times, June 8, 2002
Day 5 at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale proved to be a big day as Hip 1691, a handsome dark bay son of Yankee Victor out of Far Away Kisses, consigned by Bluewater Sales and sold to Athens Woods LLC for $320,000, topped the sale for the day.
At the Saratoga Preferred Yearling Sale, the highest priced Regal Classic and the second highest priced Tomorrow's Cat, both of which sold for $85,000, were part of a consignment of seven, with five horses sold at the sale, and two RNA'd horses sold privately after the sale.
Saratoga Select Success: BLUEWATER SALES,LLC was the 6th leading yearling consignor at Saratoga, selling 100% of its consignment of 5 for a total of $1,710,000. The consignment average was $342,000, including a $800,000 Forestry colt to John Oxley. (Hip # 125, a dk/ b./ br. Colt by Forestry o/o President's Girl)
“We thought he was very athletic, structurally well-made. He vetted out extremely well; looked athletic and solid, real good bloodlines, has a nice combination of stamina and speed. He’s just a very nice colt, a very nice colt.” John C. Oxley,
“We thought he was the best horse in the sale and we got him for a fair price and they got a fair price for him. This market is soft, 250 to 450, and the top horse goes for about what twice the market is.” John T. Ward Jr., trainer for John C. Oxley
“I’m just thrilled that the Oxleys got him, because I used to hot walk and get on horses for [the Oxleys’ trainer] Johnny Ward, so that’s really great. “He could have really gone over the top with all the people we had on him, but that was right in the range that we predicted.” Meg Levy, owner of Bluewater Sales
Fasig-Tipton July Select Yearlings was an excellent sale for BLUEWATER SALES, with 9 of 11 yearlings sold for a total of $880,000. Among them were the highest priced ARCH yearling, the highest priced SOUVENIR COPY filly and the highest priced IS IT TRUE colt.
BLUEWATER SALES was listed by MARKET WATCH as leading all consignors with graduates on the 2001 Experimental Free Handicap with a total of 7. This puts Bluewater Sales ahead of Taylor Made, Lane's End, Three Chimneys, Mill Ridge and Jonabell.
