The team at Bluewater sales was beaming with pride over the weekend when offspring of two of their sales graduates won two of the summer’s biggest Grade 1 events.
The excitement started when aptly-named The Big Beast fought to the finish in the $500,000 King’s Bishop Stakes-G1 at Saratoga, winning against Champion Dreaming of Anna’s colt Fast Anna and Grade 2 winner Coup de Grace. The Big Beast’s dam, V V S Flawless, sold for $130,000 at the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale in 2003.
Just a few hours later at the east coast track V. E. Day earned a hard-fought victory against stable mate Wicked Strong in the $1,000,000 Travers Stakes-G1. His dam, California Sunset, was consigned by Bluewater Sales at the 2008 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale, selling to Ben Walden, agent for Kelley Farms Racing, for $220,000.
It was just a few hours later and a few thousand miles across the coast to Del Mar that Bluewater had yet another reason to celebrate when the 2013 Juvenile Champion Shared Belief remained undefeated in his 2-3/4 length victory in the $1,000,000 Pacific Classic-G1. The win further bolstered the growing celebrity status of his half sister Multitassker, by Bertrando, who will be consigned this November by Bluewater at Fasig-Tipton and is in-foal to Candy Ride, who is also the sire of Shared Belief.
