Three-year-old up-and-comer Pirate’s Trove was the even-money favorite for the $125,000 Duchess Stakes at Woodbine and showed why, battling hard in deep stretch to edge out Cactus Kid and remain undefeated in her second lifetime start.
In a deal brokered by Bluewater Sales, Pirate’s Trove was purchased after her 12-1/4 length debut win on May 31 by Qatar-based Al Shahania Stud. Al Shahania kept her with trainer Michael Stidham for her debut in their silks.
Pirate’s Trove was bred by WinStar Farm, LLC and M R Capital and sold for $110,000 to Cobra Farm from agent James Keogh. Gary Biszantz sent the filly to Eisaman Equine in Florida to prep for the two-year-old in training sales, but when she failed to meet her reserve at the Fasig-Tipton Two-Year-Old Sale in May, Biszantz decided to keep and race her and enjoyed her first time out romp at Woodbine.
A daughter of Speightstown, Pirate’s Trove is out of the unraced Alydeed mare Authentic Deed. With two wins in as many starts, the filly boasts earnings of $91,470.
