Savoy Stomp, who was the highest priced colt at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected Yearling Sale, validated his $875,000 price tag on Saturday with an impressive debut win at Belmont Park on Saturday, September 27.
Going 7 f. on the main track, the dark bay – running without Lasix – broke from the rail and stalked the leaders early, but at the top of the lane he angled out and put his competition away, cruising to a 2-1/2 length victory with ease.
The colt was purchased out of the Bluewater consignment last year by Barry Irwin of Team Valor International and runs for the partnership of Team Valor and Southern Equine Stables, the latter of which also bred the colt.
Savoy Stomp is by Medaglia d’Oro and out of Crystal Current, a stakes-winning daughter of multiple Grade 1 winning daughter of Dream Supreme.
The first-out victory starts Savoy Stomp’s earnings tally off at $54,000.
