Frank Conversation has come a long way since being sold by Bluewater Sales as a yearling for $65,000 at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton October Sale. Most recently, the three-year-old won the $200,000 El Camino Real Derby and, combined with his win last time out in the California Derby, he is now on the Kentucky Derby Trail for trainer Doug O'Neill and owner J. Paul Reddam.
Out of the Unusual Heat mare Rushen Heat and by Quality Road, Frank Conversation was bred in Kentucky by Marc Keller and raised at Catherine Parke's Valkyre Stud.
The win ranks Frank Conversation 14th on the Kentucky Derby Leaderboard.
"The last two races he has improved a lot, and I think he'll keep improving," Gutierrez said to the press after the race. "He'll definitely stretch out because the competition was a little bit harder today, but he definitely kicked on and he never hesitated to keep pushing until the wire."
O'Neill said the $500,000 Spiral Stakes may be an option for the colt.
Frank Conversation now has a record of 7-4-0-1.
