Buoyed by very strong November results at Keeneland and Fasig-Tipton, Bluewater Sales is now ranked among the top 5 broodmare consignors in North America with $6,529,000 in gross receipts
The feat is even more impressive considering that every other consignor on the list sold at least twice as many horses as Bluewater sent through the auction ring.
At Fasig-Tipton on Nov. 5, Santa Teresita brought $1.75 million. Winner of the Grade 1 Santa Maria H., Santa Teresita won or placed in six other added-money events on the way to earning $503,666. Sold in foal to 3-year-old champion Bernardini, Santa Teresita from leading Japanese interests Shadai Farm.
Bluewater also consigned Mini Chat and her Indian Charlie weanling filly as hip Nos. 115 and 116. Mini Chat is out of Phone Chatter, a 2-year-old champion filly who took the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), Oak Leaf S. (G1) and Sorrento S. (G3) during the campaign.
Mini Chat brought a winning bid of $600,000 from Royal Oak Farm, agent, while her weanling filly went for $325,000 to Candy Meadows LLC.
At Keeneland, Bluewater had six distaffers bring at least $250,000 through the first seven sessions of the Nov. 6-16 auction. Topping the list was the 5-year-old mare Calais, hip No. 170, who brought $700,000 from Frank Stronach's Adena Springs Farm. Sold in foal to Distorted Humor, Calais is by A.P. Indy out of the champion mare Flanders, who in turn is the dam of champion 3-year-old filly Surfside and Grade 2 winner Battle Plan.
Other highlights at Keeneland include a pair of mares bought by Brittlyn Stables. Persuading, hip No. 91, sold for $425,000, while Good Mood (IRE), hip No. 430, went for $300,000. Persuading is out of the stakes-winner Peaks Mill and is a half sister to Hollywood Prevue (G3) winner Belgravia.
